Choosing
the correct UPS for your application
When
alternate power means low running-cost to you, UPS (Uninterrupted
Power Supply) is the answer. The initial purchase could be more
expensive than buying a generator, but it will save you fuel cost
during power outages. UPS' will give you stand-by times from 10
min to 6 hrs and more, from 0.6kVA to more than 30kVA as well as
various phase arrangements; single-phase in, single phase out, 3
phase in, single-phase out and 3 phase in, 3 phase out.
UPS'
have mainly two applications:
- Uninterrupted
supply while generator starts up on mains failure (5 to 10 min)
- Continuous
supply for up to 6 hrs on mains failure
